Starting your own business as a scaffold erector or scaffold contractor is more strenuous and expensive than other trades.
Aside from building up clientele, and future projects – you first need to acquire the actual scaffold poles, brackets, planks etc. which in itself can be a large out lay, whereas your standard trade will only need to really acquire the tools to work then off they go – but with a scaffold erector you need to acquire the plant… then somewhere to store the plant when not in use, then a vehicle big enough to move the scaffold tubes to site – all more costly than your average trade.
But what about getting your public liability sorted? Again, you’re not going to find the companies willing to cover you that would cover the likes of handy men, builders etc. so you have to go through the excessive process of finding someone to provide you a quotation… Unless you contact the right broker with facilities to accommodate scaffold erectors, not only accommodate, but have the relationships to offer competitive premiums.
We work closely with a provider that underwrites premiums for Scaffolders large and small, and though they insure 100s of large contractors, what they are currently focusing on is smaller Scaffold contractor firms, and as such they are offering extremely competitive premiums for companies with 10 or less manual employees, with same day turnarounds on quotations.
This is not to say they cannot accommodate the larger risks, they go through the normal process of being reviewed by an underwriter, and usually give a 12 hour response.
So if you’re looking for a new public liability policy or alternative quotations, give our team a call today.
