Demolition insurance is categorised under the header of high risk liability insurance. This is for the obvious reason that much of the works can cause damage to third party premises, to employees or members of the public. Not only this, but if you do not have the correct cover in place, or the right amount of cover it can cause huge losses for the insured.
Insurance for soft strip demolition is again thought of as high risk but not under the same category as full demolition. Soft strip usually entails just the internal strip out of a commercial premises or a residential unit.
Soft strip insurance is usually taken out for operations on old buildings where they have internally pretty much gone past their sell by dates and need updating. The same really goes for large scale demolition jobs i.e. where the building is so old and the structure is falling apart, that it is then needed for a demolition contractor to be called upon to take it down.
Re insurance for asbestos removal non-licensed and licensed, the demolition contractor can either include this in their policy, or if they are not undertaking this part of the project then bona-fide subcontractors will have to be used.
Again this is not always plain sailing as the insurance for a demolition contractor does not pick up cover for asbestos removal unless they have specifically requested this on their policy.
Liability amounts are usually standard at 5 million for public liability and can also cover pollution liability as well, but if there is a contract that requires 10-20million pounds liability cover we can provide an x/s layer insurance to cover this.
