Goldcrest insurance have been trading for 40 years this year and there have been huge changes over this period of time as to the business type we have provided our clients.
When the doors very first opened back in 1975 there were no computers, staff smoked in the shop and there was a high street broker pretty much in every town. Rates for car insurance were worked out by using guides provided by the insurers and due to a lack of IT there was a mass of files in filing cabinets and a huge amount of filing to be done on a daily basis.
Due to the lack of technology there was no such thing as email … so the majority of communication was by phone and due to not being able to send documents electronically, everything was sent by post or fax.
There was no such thing as google or comparison sites so the competition was purely from direct companies advertising on the TV and radio or other local brokers
The majority of business traded back then was personal lines which were car/van/motorcycle insurance and household insurance. Customers would all be local and on a Saturday morning there would be a large queue of customers waiting for the doors to open , either to pay an instalment by cash, take out or renew a policy or to do an adjustment on an existing case.

Fast Forward 40 years
We have computers, no smoking in the offices, high street brokers are scarce with the majority trading online or are placed above shops, filing cabinets have disappeared due to modern technology, so no filing which the staff are delighted about. No more queuing outside the shop on Saturdays as our business now attracts interest from all over the UK, not only that, the majority of clients now pay by card.
Email communication is massive not only for receiving documents but for also having discussions with insurers and clients. The fax has died out and the use of the internet to source some of our rates is huge. Our main competitors still remain mainstream brokers due to the business we place.
Our appetite of business has changed dramatically. We now have a large book of commercial business ranging from insuring large plc companies to single HMO landlords.
We still cover personal lines but have now added to the norm, insurance for high net worth household insurance and insurance for high net worth car insurance.
We really try and cater for all markets now especially professional indemnity insurance and liability insurance for high risk trades.
So as you can see Goldcrest Insurance has really moved forward with the times turning itself into a modern day brokerage, with rates that are extremely favourable to our clients and covering pretty much every aspect of insurance making sure we can deal with all your insurance needs under one roof.
